What a difference time makes. In the decade since I had my last relaxer, I have simplified everything in my life, including my hair care product list. When I first created this site, I had a new favorite product every week. I tried every new thing that hinted that it would make my hair easier to manage. Now I completely understand that the easiest thing that you can do for your hair is to let it be. Let it be frizzy when it wants to. Let it be curly when it wants to. Let it be natural.
And just because your hair is natural doesn't mean your products have to be also. There are no rules to getting this right other than paying attention to your own hair. Find what's right for you.
Here's what works for me.
If there is only one piece of advice you take from this site, it is this: Find a good conditioner.
This is the best conditioner ever. Period.
I don't splurge in this category any more. I started using a natural solid shampoo from a local health food store. It looks just like a bar of soap. And it doesn't dry out my hair like other shampoos. But any but the most harsh of shampoos when used sparingly work well on natural hair.
Gives hair a nice shine by balancing the ph of hair and closing cuticles. Do not over do it on the vinegar or you'll have a lingering smell. Use as a final rinse after washing.
Recipe: 1 part vinegar, 4 parts water
Apply to damp hair as a deep conditioner before shampooing. Cover hair with plastic cap, and let sit for an hour or so, then wash, condition and style as usual.
Recipe: 1 part raw natural honey, 1 part olive oil
